Welcome to the Department of Hematology, Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine.

Founded in 1899 as the First Department of Internal Medicine, our department has a history spanning more than 120 years. As one of Japan's long-standing academic departments specializing in hematology, we have trained numerous physicians and researchers and have made significant contributions to clinical practice, research, and education in the field.

Today, approximately 80 members of our department work in close collaboration with 24 affiliated hospitals. Together, we are committed to advancing hematology through patient care, research, and education. Our research activities extend beyond our own department to include collaborations with laboratories across the Graduate School of Medicine, as well as basic science groups such as the Center for iPS Cell Research and Application.

In clinical practice, we maintain strong ties with our affiliated hospitals through multicenter clinical studies, personnel exchange, bedside teaching, and other educational initiatives.

Our department reflects Kyoto University’s tradition of academic freedom, openness, and active intellectual exchange. We warmly welcome physicians who are committed to caring for patients with hematologic diseases and to developing new therapies that can benefit many more patients in the future.
